MInecraft Creeper Bobble Stitch Pixel Art by Lumos5000
MInecraft Creeper Bobble Stitch Pixel Art
A friend of mine saw the pixel art that I've been doing on Facebook and wanted me to make a Minecraft Creeper for her son because he is a big fan of the game. I think she wants to turn it into a pillow case cover and I was happy to oblige. It was a fun little side project and I am pleased with how it turned out. Hopefully he likes it.

Cyberman Mushroom Bobble Stitch Pixel Art by Lumos5000
Cyberman Mushroom Bobble Stitch Pixel Art
This Mario Mushroom required a cyber-conversion. If you do not conform to their upgrade you will be deleted.

In all seriousness though Doctor Who is one of my favorite shows so finding and creating a Mario Mushroom to pay homage to one of its greatest villains was super fun. He will be converted from a singular rectangle into part of a greater blanket puzzle once I have more mushrooms to piece together.

Mario Mushroom Bobble Stitch Pixel Art
My Mario Mushroom is finished and I really am very pleased with how it turned out. It further proved that if you want an exact square that you have to use slip stitches in between the rows of bobble stitches so as not to distort the shape.

I really am excited about this because hopefully this will be one piece of a Mario Mushroom blanket I plan on making out of various different kinds of mushrooms. There are so many creative Mario Mushrooms out there I thought it would be fun to combine them square by square into one big blanket. But it felt only right that I would start out with one of the original mushrooms.

Bobble Stitch Floppy Disk Experiment by Lumos5000
Bobble Stitch Floppy Disk Experiment

So I did a bit of an experiment…

The floppy on the left is done with the traditional bobble stitch pixel art method. The one on the right is the same pattern, except instead of single crocheting between each row of bobbles, I slip stitched instead. Now the only tricky bit about this was, that because of the nature of slip stitches, they tend to be a bit tight. So I had to be extra loose with them in order to do the next row of bobbles. In the long run though, with the slip stitch, you have more of a square shape vs the single crochet which adds just a tab bit of extra space that will add up in the end making an originally square pattern more of a rectangle.

It is seriously interesting what a few extra inches will do. (and yes that is my couch)

Cupcake 8 Bit Bobble Pixel Art by Lumos5000
Cupcake 8 Bit Bobble Pixel Art
Still a bit under the weather so I decided to try another bobble stitch pixel art pattern. This one was fun playing with different color combinations and seeing what a slightly more complex pattern would take to pull off. It's a bit more puffy (no pun intended) than I usually do but it was nice to step out of my comfort zone.

Another interesting thing about this was the original pattern was 21 x 21 pixels but when duplicated in this particular technique you do not get a perfect square. I believe this is because of the extra single crochet rows added between the bobble stitch rows.

Regardless I think this might make a cool pillow.

I just had a really successful teespring campaign. If you guys don't know what that is, it's a website where you submit your designs for shirts and then put in how many you need to get to (your goal) before it ships. I did this once before with another design and it didn't even come close to reaching it's goal.

But this one did so yay!!! I'm excited about it because it's alway great to have positive feedback from people and it will be a bit weird knowing that 27 people are walking around wearing my art [insert awkward feeling here].

Below is the design that I submitted for the campaign. I'm very proud of it as I have been experimenting with typography and a simpler design style.

“I am and always will be the optimist. The hoper of far-flung hopes and the dreamer of improbable dreams.” ~ The Eleventh Doctor

Well that pretty much sums me up in a nutshell. What else can I tell you? Hmmmm…. ponders. I am a lover, not a fighter. I enjoy a good book and a cup of tea on a cold winter night (well any night really). I have a BFA in Graphic Design, recently graduated. Some of my favorite things are Doctor Who, Sherlock, Harry Potter, Dragonriders of Pern, The Time Traveler’s Wife (yes I am the essential geek girl and proud of it).
